An article on the complexity of the scientific publication

The scientific communication system is a complex environment composed of various stakeholders, including not only researchers, librarians and publishers, but also university administrators. This article “Open Access Publishing Practices in a Complex Environment: Conditions, Barriers, and Bases of Power” examines the conditions under which each group is facing, noting the obstacles to open access. Power relations between these actors are studied. A better understanding of the many existing interactions and dependencies can help those who work within the system to evolve more efficiently and therefore better position their organizations for the future.
